Biography

Canada’s spirited Tartan Terrors take to the stage like “an explosion in a crayon factory.” Mixing World Champion piping, Scottish dance, song, and Celtic high jinks in a hilarious combination of “Saturday Night Live Meets Riverdance,” the Tartan Terrors have performed for President Clinton, Good Morning America, Queen Elizabeth II, and the Opening of Parliament in Ottawa.

Six Time Performers of the Year in Ontario, the Tartan Terrors celebrated their twelfth anniversary in 2006. These musicians, dancers, and comedians are acknowledged as top in their disciplines, and also feature a two-time World Champion piper. Popular at performing arts centers, colleges, and festivals, the Tartan Terrors also perform school programs. “The Terrors” as they are affectionately called, began their career in a barn when sister-brother team Ellen & Ian Irmisch combined music and dance with gags and jokes, selling tickets to benefit a local charity. The rest is history.

Nowadays, audiences are as likely to “encounter broad swords as broad humor” and find themselves enjoying “a comedic romp subtly spiced with drama.” Art Ketchen of Celtic Beat Magazine states, “Not since Barachois stepped off the stage from touring has a gap been filled in Celtic music for comedy. Now the heirs apparent to the mayhem have arrived from the Scots end of the spectrum. The fact [is] that the Tartan Terrors are also excellent musicians above and beyond the laughs…see the Tartan Terrors live.”

Audiences of all ages enjoy the joie de vivre of men in kilts, dancers kicking up their heels, and sheep on the run in a rollicking good time. An experience unlike any other, the Tartan Terrors leave audiences rolling in the aisles and calling for more.
