Two
former members of seminal Celtic rock band The
Drovers, Celtic super-musicians Jackie Moran
& Christy Bain, have returned to their traditional
roots, recording & touring with their new
group, Gan Bua, four of whose
five members are All-Ireland Champions.
Hailing from Thurles, Co.Tipperary, by way of
Chicago, bodhrán player & percussionist
Jackie Moran is at the core
of Gan Buas authentic,
powerful music. An All-Ireland Bodhrán
Champion many times over, Jackie has
performed with top Irish musicians around the
world including Liz Carroll, David Munnelly,
Kevin Burke, Paddy Keenan, and more. He has
toured with Riverdance, and with Belgium-based
Celtic group Comas.
Fiddler & viola player Christy Bain
is rooted not only in Irish traditional music,
but also in Welsh, Scottish, Bluegrass, and
classical music. As a student at the University
of Wales, he toured with legendary Welsh triple
harpist Robin Huw Bowen, both solo, and with
Robins group Crasdant, with whom he still
tours. Christy has also performed with Dennis
Cahill, Anish, and the Trinity Irish Dance Company.
Not long ago he was invited to join Gaelic Storm,
but instead focused on traditional music with
Gan Bua. Christy is an All-Ireland
Duet Champion.
Other award-winning musicians in Gan
Bua are All-Ireland Champion
Sean Gavin on flute & Uilleann
pipes. Sean is the son of legendary Clare fiddler
Mick Gavin, an inductee into the Irish Music
Hall of Fame. Vocalist, concertina, and tin
whistle player Brian Hart is
both the youngest and first American ever to
win the All-Ireland in Irish
Gaelic singing. He has sung for Irish President
Mary McAleese, and his CDs have been played
on radio throughout Ireland & North America.
Respected traditional guitarist & vocalist
Brian Miller lends his outstanding
playing to the drive & power of the music.
Gan Bua has performed at numerous
festivals including Bostons Irish Connections
Festival, Milwaukees Irish Fest, Celtic
Fest Chicago, Erin Feis, and more. Their latest
CD, Gan Bua - Live at Martyrs
is A definite winner for this
talented quintet with kudos all-round--including
the technical end of things. Trad meets young,
great musicians. Really terrific stuff.
