Biography

From New York’s world-famous Carnegie Hall to the Pacific Northwest to the sunny Caribbean, Cady Finlayson has brought her “sweet and melodic” (Dirty Linen) fiddle playing to a wide range of audiences in over twenty-five states and four countries.

With a repertoire that ranges from “joyously playful reels to sweet haunting ballads… stellar instrumental performances… and original songs written by Cady…. Cady Finlayson and crew have given birth to a stylish blend of Irish Celtic and American Folk that is guaranteed to warm the heart.” (HotIndieNews)

Cady holds a Masters degree from Mannes College of Music. She is a recipient of the President’s Award in Irish music studies from the University of Limerick, and on the music faculty at the United Nations International School.

“One of America’s top Celtic fiddlers,” (New Age Voice Magazine) Cady’s band includes three time All-Ireland button accordion champion John Redmond, who was also the Co. Wexford Champion on button accordion for nine consecutive years. Singer Mari Reisberg performed throughout the U.S. and Australia before joining the Cady Finlayson Band. Guitarist Kyle Sanna, who is also a film composer, and bodhrán player/percussionist Tim Alworth, who studied at the University of Limerick, round out the line-up. Cady performs with Champion Irish stepdancers, who are available upon request.

Cady Finlayson has performed in over twenty-five states and in Ireland, Greece, and the Caribbean at festivals, concert series, and on film soundtracks such as the Irish movies “The Emerald Diamond” and “Snakes and Ladders.” She has been a guest artist on CDs by Pierce Turner, piper John Bradley (Dead Poets Society), and the Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County, and has performed live with Pierce Turner, Sean McCabe, Jodee James, Ffynnon, and other well-known Celtic groups. Cady’s performance of “Silent Night” is on the NPR recording, “Peace on Earth Holiday Folk Tour” with Judy Collins.

Cady’s two albums, “Shines Like Silver” and “Harp and Shamrock” have been played on over 400 radio stations in North America, Europe, and Australia. Currently at work on her third album, music critic Michael Allison says, "…with a remarkable talent and vision for her music…Cady Finlayson makes the world a little more beautiful."
